Spectroscopic and photochemical properties of olefin complexes

Olefin complexes are characterized by a diversity of electronic transitions which involve a direct participation of the olefin ligand. Intraligand as well as charge transfer (LMCT, MLCT and LLCT) absorptions are observed in t he electronic spectra of olefin complexes. Free olefins are also engaged in outer sphere CT interactions with metal complexes. The photochemistry of o lefin complexes can be related to the electronic structure of the reactive excited states.
