We report on a measurement of the differential and total cross sections of
inclusive production of Xi* resonances in Sigma(-) - nucleus collisions at
345 GeV/c. The cross section for inclusive Xi(530)(0) production is about a
factor of 5 below that of Xi(1320)(-) hyperons. The products of cross sect
ion and branching ratio for the observed channels Xi(1690)(0) --> Xi(-)pi()Xi 1820(-) --> Xi(1530)(0)pi(-) and Xi(1950)(-) --> Xi(1530)(0) pi(-) are
lower by yet another order of magnitude. The Xi(1820)(-) and Xi(1950)(-) re
sonances show significantly harder x(F) and pi distributions than Xi(-) and
Xi(1530)(0) hyperons. A comparison of the x(F)-distribution to PYTHIA and
QGSM predictions provides only a partial agreement.
