The position of investment banking in the Czech financial system

This paper surveys the relationships between investment banking and the eco nomy. The author focuses on the connection between investment banking and c ommercial banking. He begins with an analysis of universal banking; he then presents the model of strict separation of commercial and investment banki ng. The third section analyzes the combined bank system and its connection to non-financial firms in Germany, Japan and United States. The article con cludes with a summary of the main problems of investment banking in the Cze ch Republic. Today, Czech investment banking is going through a period when it must solve several questions arising from its unconventional origin.
