Abstract
This paper presents a novel method for computation of capacitance in i ntegrated passive components (IPC's) containing floating conductors, T he IPC is a multiterminal device which is arbitrarily shaped and may b e composed of inhomogeneous as well as field-dependent dielectric. The one-port capacitance between any pair of terminals is determined dire ctly, without the need to calculate the capacitance matrix, The comput ational technique is based on incorporating the floating conductor con cept into the finite difference solution to the Laplace equation, Nume rous data for practical IPC's are presented, with the results validate d against measurements.
