Abstract
Changes in the molecular-weight distribution of dextran macromolecules upon gamma-irradiation of 2-50 wt % aqueous solutions of this polysaccharide in the dose range 0-0.08 MGy were examined using viscometry and gel-permeatio n chromatography data. The crosslinking rather than degradation of the macr omolecules was found to be enhanced by gamma-radiolysis with increasing the polymer concentration in the solution. It was also found that this effect weakens with decreasing molecular weight of the initial dextran.
