Abstract
Motion of a small spherical particle with density of the order of the fluid density in the two-dimensional flow of a viscous fluid is studie d. The local flow disturbance around the particle is assumed to be cre eping and the particle Reynolds number is considered small. An approxi mate analytical solution for the particle velocity is derived, inertia l effects and the influence of Basset force on the particle motion in an axisymmetrical vortex and in cellular flow are considered. Results of numerical integration are also presented which well agree with anal ytical solutions.
