Well conditioned spherical polynomial systems

We investigate nonnegative spherical polynomials p, normalized to p(1) = 1, which minimize the integral over the unit sphere for fixed degree. Such po lynomials are useful in the construction of node systems on the sphere whic h support numerically stable systems of zonal functions, for instance with bounded condition numbers.
