Iodine-methanol-promoted oxidation of 2-aryl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-4-quinolones to 2-aryl-4-methoxyquinolines

2-Aryl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-4-quinolones are converted in high yields to the corresponding 2-aryl-4-methoxyquinolines using molecular iodine in refluxin g methanol; the structures of the quinoline derivatives are determined usin g H-1 and C-13 NMR spectroscopic techniques.
