This column presents an introduction to library and information science edu
cation at the university level in Slovenia. It indicates some weak elements
of the present situation and suggests solutions for the future, especially
emphasizing human factors. Description of the past is represented by a bri
ef history, while the present state is described with elements used by the
International Encyclopedia of National Systems of Education, The Internatio
nal Encyclopedia of Curriculum, and the World Guide to Library Archive and
Information Science Education. Recommendations for improvement are made on
the basis of a comparison between Slovene and several European, American, A
ustralian, and Canadian library schools.
