The Eu3+ time-resolved luminescence in the strontium hydroxyapatite Sr-10(P
O4)(6)(OH)(2) Prepared by solid-state reaction is studied at 20 K. The emis
sion mainly arises from the D-5(0) level. The study is focused on the distr
ibution of sites which exhibit unusual spectroscopic features as in other a
patites due to an Eu-O privileged bonding with Eu3+ located in (6h) positio
ns. Non-selective UV excitation and the site-selective-laser excitation in
the D-5(0) and D-5(1) levels were performed. Luminescence decay profiles of
the D-5(0)-europium sites were recorded. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. Al
