Use of Faradaic adsorption (FAd) of lithium on the carbon surface is a nove
l concept proposed by us for providing an additional capacity for the carbo
n anode of Li-ion secondary batteries. Since the capacity is, in general, p
roportional to the effective specific surface area, implying that an active
carbon having a very high specific surface area is expected to provide a v
ery large adsorption capacity. Issues in the FAd process have been found in
its poor reproducibility and cycleability. In the present paper, the condi
tion to obtain a stable high current CV peak was examined in detail. We fou
nd that cleaning the surface and maintaining a good electrical contact are
the most important key factors, (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights r
