T. Yokota et al., Estimation of light intensity profilesin an annular type photoreactor withgas-solid-in-liquid dispersions, KAG KOG RON, 25(6), 1999, pp. 854-860
Light intensity profiles in an annular photoreactor with gas-solid-in-liqui
d dispersions are measured by means of a newly designed photo-probe which s
hows a uniform sensitivity to scattered light rays from any directions. The
light scattering intensity profiles are approximated by a modified equatio
n which includes two model parameters as a weight coefficient and an effect
ive attenuation coefficient in the light intensity profile equation based o
n a diffused line light source model for an annular photoreactor with a hom
ogeneous phase. The functional relations between the two parameters, and ga
s-holdup and solid particles concentration are determined to satisfy the me
asured profiles. The modified equation can estimate the light absorption ra
te due to the dispersed solid particles in the reactor. The rate shows a ma
ximum value for the optimum solid concentration with a certain gas hold-up.
