The availability of an efficient, low-cost numerical simulator is essential
in the design of fluid dynamic systems, both to achieve a deep understandi
ng of the flow field and to allow a quick and economical optimization of th
e technical characteristics of industrial devices. With the aim of developi
ng an adequate simulation tool for the analysis of the fluid dynamical fiel
d in general 2d domains, a positive scheme, recently proposed as a simple a
nd yet powerful method for the approximation of conservation laws, is exten
ded in this paper to general curvilinear coordinates. The resulting algorit
hm is successfully applied to several test cases of increasing complexity.
