In January of 1999 lending negotiation scholars and practitioners gathered
at Northwestern University for a conference sponsored by the Hewlett Founda
tion. Here, we chronicle a conversation that occurred regarding negotiation
research. Our diverse group consisted of people with backgrounds in social
psychology, anthropology, sociology, and clinical practice. We discussed i
ssues surrounding where research takes place tin the lab or in the field),
experimental participants (students or practicing professionals), and the u
ltimate value of research.
