Distribution patterns of Moscovian conodonts in terrigenous strata of the D
onets Basin were analyzed in seven stratigraphic sections. Two species line
ages of Streptognathodus and Idiognathodus were recorded. Five correlative
levels are distinguished. The greatest change in conodont assemblages does
not occur at the base, but higher up in the Moscovian. The Bashkirian gener
a Declinognathodus and Idiognathoides became extinct during early Moscovian
times. The Early Moscovian conodont assemblage is similar to that of the V
ercian of the Russian Platform, the Bolsovian (Aegiranum Marine Band) of We
stern Europe, and the Atokan of North America. The Moscovian/Kasimovian bou
ndary is situated between limestones N-3(2) and N-5(1) and also corresponds
to the Uppermost Desmoinesian, below the Desmoinesian/Missourian boundary.
