Abstract
We give a description for the production of C-13 foils and the preparation of an approximately 1-mg/cm(2) thick target. A recent experiment to measure the mass of Ca-36, via the Ca-40(He-4,He-8)Ca-36 reaction, required precis e determination of the accelerated beam energy and calibration of the focal plane of a magnetic spectrometer to achieve the most accurate value for th e Ca-36 mass. A 1 mg/cm(2) C-13 target was essential for these purposes. Ta rget preparation and performance along with some preliminary results will b e discussed. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V.
