Two nesting attempts by Banded Kestrels Falco zoniventris were observed dur
ing the breeding seasons of 1995 and 1996. Nests were placed in an epiphyti
c fern situated in a tree fork. Three downy young were observed in the 1995
nest during November and fledged successfully in December. The 1996 nest w
as located 300 m west of the 1995 nest and occupied by the same marked fema
le. This nest contained three short-oval off-white eggs spotted with brown.
This nest failed during the egg stage in November. Thirty prey items were
observed during the nesting period consisting of 6 (20%) reptiles, 6 (20%)
unidentified vertebrates, and 18 (60%) unidentified.
