Based on the polaron effect, we have provided a theoretical explanation for
the photoluminescence (PL) spectra of a single InP/GaInP quantum dot, the
characteristic features of which are a set of equally separated peaks and l
arge linewidth. The phonon band required for our theory has recently been d
iscovered as the disorder activated longitudinal acoustic band around 20 me
V. Our theoretical predictions on the temperature dependence and the light
polarization dependence of the PL spectra have initiated new experiments, w
hich have confirmed our theory.
