The polymerization of sodium methacrylate in water was investigated using c
onductimetry and dilatometry. Conductimetry was shown to be a reliable tool
for the determination of the kinetic parameters of the blank polymerizatio
n (order of reaction with respect to monomer and initiator, activation ener
gy). The conductimetric investigation of-template polymerization of the acr
ylic monomer onto poly(allylamine) hydrochloride at low monomer concentrati
on indicates that the reaction proceeds by a 'zip' mechanism.
