Abstract
There are abundant diagnostic possibilities when a patient presents with pa in or dysfunction of the hip or knee. To help readers learn to recognize th e various disorders, the authors briefly describe and illustrate those that are seen most often in a primary care office. The age of the patient is an important clue to diagnosis, and the authors discuss the disorders chronol ogically-that is, with increasing age of the patient. They also summarize t he latest treatments for each.
