Abstract
The eastern end of the Jubilee Line Extension comes out of the ground at Ca nning Town and runs for 3.5 km at ground level to Stratford via West Ham. T he extremely confined route meant that the engineering challenges on the at -grade section were no less than those on the tunnelled sections. The const ruction meant closing the North London Line for a year while it was rebuilt alongside the extension and literally sliding a 2500 t elevated platform i n between two live railways at Canning Town. This paper discusses the compl ex advance works required throughout the route and then focuses on the desi gn and construction of Canning Town station.
