Abstract
The pound 3 billion plus extension to the Jubilee Line features the most up -to-date trains and electrical and mechanical systems. It positively bristl es with innovative safety and control features, from platform-edge doors an d a virtually uninterruptable power supply to in-train video and intercom s ystems. The proposed moving-block signalling had not been used before on su ch a large mass-transit system and particular problems with implementation on the live existing section resulted in the system being deferred in favou r of an interim fixed-block system with a capacity of 24 trains per hour. I n addition to the signalling, this paper describes the trains, lifts, escal ators, ticket barriers and platform-edge doors as well as the communication , power, fire and ventilation systems.
