Abstract
The Steel Industry has decreased its emissions of greenhouse gases by a fac tor of 3 in the last 30 years, However, the prospect of Global Warming, eve n if it is still a matter of controversy, makes it necessary to explore the issue further, Increasing steel recycling, i,e, the use of scrap, would be the most realistic near-term answer of the Steel Industry to a further dec rease in CO2 emissions. In the long term, some interesting R&D paths are le ft open.
