Abstract
Orange crystals of CpMn(CO)(2)(RC equivalent to CR), where R = Ph or CH2OH (I and II, respectively), were prepared by the photochemical reaction of Cp Mn(CO)(3) with tolan and 1,4-butynediol. According to the X-ray structural analysis of I and II, the coordinated triple bond occupies the position of the displaced CO group in a CpMn(CO)(3) "piano stool" and elongates from 1. 19 Angstrom in R2C2 to 1.242(5) or 1.233(4) Angstrom, respectively, while t he R-C equivalent to C angles decrease, on the average, from 180 degrees to 154.5(4)degrees or 152.8(3)degrees, respectively.
