Synthesis of primary o-carboran-1-ylalkylamines by reduction of 1-(omega-nitroalkyl)-o-carboranes

o-Carboran-1-ylsodium derivatives readily add at the 1,4-positions of alpha ,beta-unsaturated nitro compounds in liquid ammonia to form nitro derivativ es of o-carboranes. Reduction of the latter with lithium aluminum hydride i n ether yields primary o-carboran-1-ylalkylamines which can be isolated as hydrochlorides.
