Formylmethylenetriphenylphosphorane o-hydroxyarylimines readily form chelat
es ML2 (where L is the anionic form of the ligand) with Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(
II), Cd(II), and Hg(II). Cobalt complexes were not isolated pure. The spect
roscopic and magnetochemical data as well as published data for related o-(
benzalamino)phenol complexes suggest that some complexes have the distorted
tetrahedral structure with the MN2O2 coordination core, whereas the other
complexes have the distorted square-planar structure with the MC2O2 coordin
ation core.
