Abstract
Ten new briarane-type diterpenes have been isolated from the gorgonian octo coral Briareum excavatum. The structures of these secondary metabolites, na med briaexcavatolides A-J (1-10), were established by spectroscopic and che mical methods. The structure, including the relative configuration of briae xcavatolide B (2), was further confirmed by a single-crystal X-ray structur e analysis. Cytotoxicity of these compounds toward various cancer cell line s also is described. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
