Simultaneous bilateral rupture of the quadriceps tendon in a patient with secondary hyperparathyreoidism

A case of bilateral simultaneous rupture of the quadriceps tendon without s ignificant trauma is presented. Generally there is an association with chro nic metabolic disorders, such as chronic renal failure and secondary hyperp arathyreoidism, as well as hormonal diseases. The ruptures appeared in a 34 -year-old man with chronic renal failure and severe secondary hyperparathyr eoidism. Etiology, diagnostic procedures and treatment in comparison with t he international literature are described. We discuss the value of ultrasou nd screening as a diagnostical and follow-up tool.
