Abstract
A new lithoglyptid species, Lithoglyptes egorovi, was found in a shelf of M orula cavernosa gastropod from the Maldives region (3 degrees 48'N; 73 degr ees 05'E) at a depth of 1.8 m. The new species possesses four terminal cirr i and caudal appendages like other species of the genus Lithoglyptes. Besid es, its opercular lips bear the conspicuous rounded opercular projections, the lateral bars are present, the orificial knob is absent, the caudal appen dages are two-joined; L. egorovi sp. n. is closely related to L. mitis Toml inson and L. habei Tomlinson, but differs from them in the absence of the o rificial knob and in having the rounded opercular projections without long spines, characteristic of L. mitis Tomlinson, L. habei Tomlinson, and L. st irni Turquier.
