Abstract
The congenital neurological disorder spinal dysmyelinatian is seen in cattl e breeds upgraded with American Brown Swiss cattle. The disorder is inherit ed as an autosomal recessive disease. The spinal dysmyelination locus was g enetically mapped in a family of Red Danish Dairy breed x American Brown Sw iss, using a battery of approximately 200 microsatellite markers. The chrom osomal region containing the disease gene was limited to around 5 cM. This localisation provides the basis for the mapping and cloning of the disease causing gene.
