Jr. Patrinely et al., Total upper eyelid reconstruction with mucosalized tarsal graft and overlying bipedicle flap, ARCH OPHTH, 117(12), 1999, pp. 1655-1661
Total or near-total upper eyelid reconstruction with a mucosalized tarsal g
raft and overlying bipedicled myocutaneous flap was performed on 12 patient
s. This technique offers several advantages over other reconstructive metho
ds: (1) the opportunity for immediate visual rehabilitation through a singl
e-staged procedure without obscuration of the visual axis, (2) preservation
of eyelid blinking and closure by relocation of functional orbicularis mus
cle, (3) excellent eyelid contour, and (4) use of tissue physiologically si
milar to that removed. The technique and clinical results are presented her
ein.
