Since 1967, some Upper Cretaceous deposits have been discovered in the Gran
ds Causses. In the course of our work, we have identified, analyzed and mad
e maps of numerous previously unknown deposits in varied facies, stretching
from the eastern Causse of Larzac to the Causse of Campestre. Bauxite, sit
uated in contact with Tithonian limestone, is followed by sandy clay sedime
nts. Then a thick layer of sandstone and marine fossil-rich limestone fossi
lized a differentiated palaeotopography. This is then partially exhumed, le
aving some trace of the Cretaceous continental cover. ((C) 1999 Academie de
