Abstract
This paper quantifies the minimum hot-cold-electric utility cost for a fini te-capacity reservoir system. A non-convex, nonlinear optimization problem formulation is presented whose global optimum is identified in analytic for m. The optimum electric, hot, and cold utility usage is also explicitly ide ntified. A case study on distillation is employed to illustrate the method. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
