Abstract
For infants in Germany particular strategies for the prevention of iodine d eficiency are needed, as infants are not included in the general prevention by iodized table salt. Commercial infant food (formula, beikost) is mostly iodized. Infants not fed commercial infant food are disadvantaged in iodin e supply The iodine content of human milk map be significantly increased by iodine supplementation using iodine tablets starting already in early preg nancy. Producers of commercial infant food should also enrich whole grain c ereals to be used for home made beikost with iodine.
