Abstract
Deconvolution analysis of infrared spectra of prepared barium vanadate glasses containing iron and V2O5 glass was carried out. It was shown that the formation of VO4 tetrahedra (V4+ ions) takes place during the formation of the other structural groups (V5+ and Fe3+ ions) in the g lass network. The concentration of V4+ groups increased by raising the melting temperature of V2O5 glass and also by the substitution of BaO be Fe2O3 in barium vanadate glasses. Absorption peaks at 660 and 690 cm(-1) of infrared spectra have been assigned. They may be due to V4groups and V4+-Fe3+ associates, respectively. The optical spectra of t he studied glasses show that the optical absorption is due to direct f orbidden electronic transition. The changes in the calculated values o f the optical energy gap, E-Opt and width of localised states tail in the mobility gap, Delta(E) were interpreted on the basis of the modifi cation in the glassy matrix accompanying the addition of Fe2O3.
