The present study was undertaken to compare capsular antigens of Pasteurell
a multocida strains isolated from a field case of ovine pneumania (type B)
with a reference strain. Capsular antigens were extracted by saline solutio
n, potassium thiocyanate and sodium salicylate solution separately. Our of
these 3 methods, sodium chloride extraction method resulted in the highest
protein concentration in both the strains as compared to other methods. Pro
tein profile of both the strains by SDS- PAGE revealed more number of bands
by the same method of extraction. Saline solution extract was able to prod
uce high antibody titre, whereas sodium salicylate extract was more cross-r
eactive.
