Topographical anatomical disposition of spinal nerves supplying to flank ar
ea was studied in 3 embalmed yaks (Bos grunniens), thereafter paravertebral
lumbar analgesia was rationalised in 9 adult yaks of either sex. The flank
area in yak was innervated by the last two thoracic (T-13, T-14) and first
two lumbar (L-1, L-2) spinal nerves. Four mi of 2% lignocaine hydrochlorid
e deposited at the origin of nerve superficially and 5ml deeply, blocked th
e respective branches of flank area. The onset of analgesia occurred at 2.5
51 +/- 0.24 min in upper flank and 4.00 +/- 0.33 min in the lower flank. Th
e duration of analgesia was 112.22 +/- 4.50 and 56.67 +/- 3.12 min, respect
ively, in these areas.
