Abstract
The potentialities of linear logarithmic correlation equations for the calc
ulation of gas-chromatographic retention indices are considered. These equa
tions relate the retention indices (I) to the retention indices of more ful
ly characterized compounds from other series (structural analogs) on the sa
me stationary phase rather than to physicochemical constants or molecular p
arameters of the test organic compounds: logI (series 2) = a logI (series 1
) + bA + c. The parameter A is responsible for the one-to-one correspondenc
e between the positions of the compared compounds in each of the taxonomic
groups of substances to be compared. The accuracy of the evaluation is comp
arable to the present-day interlaboratory reproducibility of the experiment
al determination of retention indices.
