The ladder-type Poly(paraphenylene) m-LPPP is a very suitable conjugat
ed polymer for application in electroluminescence (EL) devices. We rep
ort on the dependence of the photoluminescence on applied electric fie
lds and discuss the observed quenching effects in terms of current ind
uced quenching and field induced quenching of the emitting species. Th
e field dependent PL measurements were used to quantify the field indu
ced dissociation of the emitting species and to obtain an estimate of
the binding energy of singlet excitons in the m-LPPP polymer.
