The irreversible capacity loss that occurs during the first cycle in l
ithium ion rechargeable batteries was studied. The experimental result
s showed that binder was a major influential factor for forming the ir
reversible capacity loss using disordered carbon as an anode material.
Decomposition reactions of the binder during the first cycle were con
firmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). A better binder was s
uggested for disordered carbon as an anode material.
