Polymer-supported library compounds have been cleaved from acid sensitive l
inkers using gaseous reagents hydrogen fluoride and hydrogen chloride. Comp
ounds attached to Wang, Rink, AMEBA, and MBHA linkers were cleaved. The rea
ction gas container for gaseous cleavage was made of a polypropylene tube e
nclosed by two side-plates. Fast and reliable filling by a reagent gas was
achieved by introducing the gas into the evacuated reaction container rathe
r than gradually replacing the gas under atmospheric pressure.
