Optical studies, in a wide sense, are one of the most powerful techniq
ues for studying the electronic properties of solids. We discuss inves
tigations of the electrodynamic response in the two-dimensional organi
c conductors of the BEDT-TTF family, which become superconducting at a
round 10 K. in the normal state, the frequency dependent conductivity
is that of a correlated metal with significant deviations from the sim
ple Drude model. The electrodynamical properties of the superconductin
g state are those of an anisotropic BCS superconductor with no indicat
ions of unconventional pairing.
