Gephyromantis tricinctus Guibe, 1947 (Anura: Ranidae: Mantellinae), known o
nly from the type series and currently considered as a synonym of Mantidact
ylus biporus, is resurrected as Mantidactylus tricinctus, and included in t
he subgenus Brygoomantis. A detailed redescription, based on specimens rece
ntly collected in central eastern Madagascar, notes on natural history, and
a description of advertisement calls are provided. The species is distingu
ished from all other named species of the subgenus Brygoomantis by its shor
t in snout-vent length and reduced webbing.
