Abstract
One of the puzzles about actin-based cellular motility is how directionalit y is spontaneously imparted in an initially symmetrical situation. A comput er model representing actin filaments symmetrically surrounding a bead repr oduces the experimentally observed symmetry-breaking and the directed motio n of the bead.
