The treatment of teleangiectases of the lower extremities using an intense
pulsed light source or various laser techniques is a matter of discussion.
In contrast to encouraging results of former studies, some recent investiga
tions on PhotoDermVL-therapy revealed only poor success. Using the new flas
hlamp-pumped pulsed dye laser (ScleroPLUS), a complete vanishing of veins w
as achieved in few of the reported cases only. Both methods applied in sepe
rate lesions of the same female patients revealed no significant improvemen
t of dermatological symptoms in most of the patients. The therapeutical eff
ort using the PhotoDerm VL was slightly better than using the ScleroPLUS-La
ser, but more serious side-effects were observed.
