NEW APPLICATIONS FOR BIOCATALYSTS

Biocatalysis has always been a key focus area in biotechnology and new approaches for the utilization of biocatalysts have continued to emer ge over the past year. Significant progress has been made in the bioca talytic production of both synthetic and natural polymers, in the gene ration of novel biocatalysts using genetic and biochemical approaches or through identification of new biological sources, in the immobiliza tion of biocatalysts and their modification with amphiphilic polymers, and in the modulation of the stereochemistry of enzymatic reactions.
