The author compares two prominent texts from European culture: the burlesqu
e sonnet by Quevedo "A Apolo persiguiendo a Dafne", and Titian's "Danae"; b
oth texts reveal a debt to Ovid's Metamorphoses, particularly when addressi
ng events that occur on a cosmic plane. Of special interest are the "transl
ations" of visual symmetries into a poetic context. A number of factors sug
gest that when Quevedo created his sonnet, he was influenced by Titian's "D
anae," and was also taking into account the fundamental conclusion of Dante
's "Divina Commedia: l'amor che move il sole e l'altre stelle".
