This paper reviews the contribution of Francis Puisieux and his group to on
e of the greatest challenges in pharmaceutical science, namely: the develop
ment of an oral dosage form for insulin. We place twenty years of research
research by Professor Puisieux and his colleagues in the context of a globa
l effort to solve the problem of oral insulin. This review traces their wor
k with liposomes, multiple emulsions and nanoparticles as insulin vehicles
for oral delivery.
