Polymerization of discotic acrylic monomer was studied in bulk and solution
. It was shown that the composition and the degree of polymerization of acr
ylic copolymers based on the discotic monomer and hydroxyethyl acrylate are
significantly affected by the composition of solvent, It is suggested that
the presence of structural "stocks" in the monomer system is a decisive fa
ctor in the polymerization of monomers bearing triphenyl substituents, whic
h are capable of forming LC phases of the discotic type.
