Two field experiments were conducted in 1996 and 1997 to determine how effi
ciently insecticide-coated seed controls adults and larvae of the pea weevi
l in pea crops. The efficacy of coating seed with furathiocarb, benfuracarb
or imidacloprid was compared with one foliar application of two insecticid
es: lambda-cyhalothrin at 6.25 g a. i./ha and imidacloprid at 100 g a. i./h
a.
Seed coating either with benfuracarb 6.52 g a. i./kg seed), furathiocarb (2
g a. i./kg seed) or imidacloprid (1.75 g a. i./kg seed) gave an efficient
and better control than the spray treatment at the moment when the overwint
ered pea weevil adults migrate to the pea fields.
